My - 2 years since I've posted anything on this blog. That's because I started getting serious about finishing my master's degree.
I put away my GAR book outline, put a moratorium on primary research and said "goodbye" to my characters for a while.
Now that I've graduated, I've been dipping my toes back in the water again. I visited a GAR cemetery in Seattle and found gravestones for Wisconsin veterans. Last week in Wisconsin Dells (previously called Kilbourn City) I found the grave site of Bell Boyd, the notorious Confederate spy. I'll post some photos later - other duties call now!

Just an aside: Lydia Ely Hewitt, co-founder of the Milwaukee Soldiers' Home, spent her last years at Fair Oaks, her home in Kilbourn City.
After all of Lydia Ely Hewitt's work to help wounded Union soldiers, I wonder what her reaction was to Bell Boyd coming to town and then being buried in the same cemetery with fallen soldiers and GAR members.
